Chapter 58

Jin So-ah glared at Wei Yan-ho with a heavily furrowed brow.

“Ah, seriously. Don’t look at me with those eyes. I’m really not doing it because it’s bothersome.”

“I’ve heard stories of martial artists curing illnesses that even physicians couldn’t treat!”

“That’s all bullshit.”

“……What?”

“If that were the case, wouldn’t physicians also learn martial arts? Why would they be crazy enough to learn medicine when it has little effect? If martial artists could cure diseases, would they risk their lives wielding swords and fighting to make money? They’d just become physicians and make good money living easily and comfortably.”

“……”

“Well, it seems you’ve picked up some strange rumors somewhere, but all of that is bullshit. It’s just bragging from those sword-wielding bastards, and they’re spouting nonsense with lime on their throats that won’t even work.”

Jin So-ah listened blankly to Wei Yan-ho’s defense flowing like a clear stream, then urgently spoke.

“That… I… never mind all that, please just help me somehow!”

“Help with what? I really don’t know anything!”

“You know acupoints, don’t you?”

“I know that.”

“Then please press the acupoints of this patient here. Quickly!”

At Jin So-ah’s appearance, almost frothing at the mouth as he shouted, Wei Yan-ho clicked his tongue and crouched down in front of the patient vomiting blood.

“What should I do?”

“Press the Tiantu acupoint with half a pun of force, and press the Zhongfu acupoint with one pun of force.”

Wei Yan-ho looked at the patient and raised his hand with a reluctant expression.

“So… Tiantu acupoint is half a pun, and Zhongfu acupoint is one pun…”

Wei Yan-ho pressed the patient a couple of times and then looked at Jin So-ah with a slightly pale face.

“Hey, this person seems strange right now?”

Jin So-ah, who had been pressing the patient’s wound, turned his head. The patient’s face was turning deathly pale. Now blood foam was even coming up from his mouth.

“Did you press the Tiantu acupoint with half a pun and the Zhongfu acupoint with one pun?”

“So the Tiantu acupoint is here, and the Zhongfu acupoint is here.”

After confirming where Wei Yan-ho pointed, Jin So-ah shouted frantically.

“Is that the Zhongfu acupoint! You bastard, you’re worse than dog shit!”

“That’s harsh language…”

“A martial artist who doesn’t even know where the Zhongfu acupoint is!”

Wei Yan-ho stepped back with a wounded expression.

“Well, I didn’t learn it formally but picked it up roughly, so I might make some mistakes.”

“Can’t you see the patient is dying?”

Wei Yan-ho deflated.

“Sorry.”

“Again! The Zhongfu acupoint is below there, press it again!”

“I don’t want to.”

“What?”

Wei Yan-ho had become like a wounded fern, drooping down completely.

“I don’t want to do it when you keep making me do something I said I didn’t want to do, and then I get cursed at for not doing it properly. I just won’t do it.”

Jin So-ah became desperate.

“I won’t curse anymore, so just please do it.”

“Forget it. I’ll just become a bastard worse than dog shit again if I don’t do it properly anyway. So why did you insist on making someone who said they were leaving stay and do it?”

Jin So-ah shouted at the top of his lungs.

“Fine! Just press the acupoints of that patient first! A person is dying right now! A person!”

“Better than me killing him by touching him wrong.”

Jin So-ah desperately grabbed the gold needle in his chest.

If I throw this, will it stick in that annoying bastard’s body?

Then Jin Ye-ran helped Jin So-ah.

“I apologize on behalf of my younger brother for his rude words. Right now the patient’s life hangs in the balance, so please blame us later and help us now—we would be grateful.”

Wei Yan-ho nodded with a reluctant expression.

“Well, since I’m generous, I’ll just help. But the kid seems to lack manners.”

Jin So-ah wanted to rush at Wei Yan-ho and have a brawl regardless of whether the patient lived or died, but he suppressed his anger with superhuman patience.

Wei Yan-ho approached the patient and pressed the Tiantu and Zhongfu acupoints again. The patient who had been frothing blood calmed down and shallow breathing could be heard.

“It seems like he can breathe?”

“The pathway has just widened. You need to press below the patient’s solar plexus to make him spit up bloody phlegm!”

Wei Yan-ho pressed the patient’s solar plexus.

“Nothing’s coming out?”

“Press harder!”

“If I press harder than this, this person’s organs will burst!”

“Then we need to extract it another way! It’ll get blocked again soon. If we don’t extract it, that person will die!”

“What should I do?”

“Suck it out through the mouth.”

“Huh?”

Wei Yan-ho looked at Jin So-ah with wide eyes.

“Put your mouth to the patient’s mouth and suck it out.”

“Um, so…”

Wei Yan-ho glanced at the patient and said with a bright smile.

“So I need to put my mouth on this uncle’s mouth and suck out the bloody phlegm that’s blocked inside?”

“That’s right.”

“Isn’t there another way?”

“There isn’t! Do it quickly! Or that patient will die!”

“The patient dying is a problem, but my precious heart dying is also a big problem…”

“What are you talking about!”

Wei Yan-ho shook his head firmly.

“Can’t do it. I can’t! Damn it, it’s my first time!”

“What’s your first time, you bastard!”

Jin So-ah was so heated he could barely breathe.

“Just pull out what’s blocked in the throat?”

“That’s right! It’s urgent!”

“Then you should have said that from the start. Why make me press acupoints for no reason and get cursed at?”

“What?”

Wei Yan-ho grumbled incessantly as if displeased and brought his hand to the patient’s mouth.

When Wei Yan-ho placed his palm over the patient’s mouth and lifted his hand, a dark red blood clot shot up from the patient’s mouth into the air.

Hueok?”

Jin So-ah asked in shock.

“What did you do?”

“I sucked it out.”

“What? With your hand?”

“There’s something called suction energy. Well, anyway, it’s done now, right?”

“Leave that patient alone and please take care of the patient next to him. Please extract the bloody phlegm stuck in that patient’s throat the same way.”

Wei Yan-ho grumbled but obediently treated the patients as Jin So-ah instructed.

After extracting the phlegm, Jin So-ah threw the gold needle from his chest.

Wei Yan-ho caught the gold needle, frowned, and asked Jin So-ah.

“What’s this for?”

“Please press the Qihai and Juque acupoints of the patient in front to a depth of half a chi.”

“Can’t I just do it like before?”

“That time it was fine to just press, but this time you need to keep it inserted for at least one shijin! Without needles, the procedure can’t be performed.”

Wei Yan-ho shook his head.

“I don’t know how to use this. And if it requires acupuncture with such thin needles, what I do is meaningless. Even if the direction is slightly off, it becomes meaningless.”

Jin So-ah thought Wei Yan-ho was right. Although he had borrowed Wei Yan-ho’s help in desperation, acupuncture without proper learning would rather become harmful.

Depending on how needles are inserted, life acupoints (saenghyeol) can become death acupoints (sahyeol)—that’s exactly what acupuncture is.

‘What should I do?’

He wanted to perform acupuncture himself, but if only Jin Ye-ran and Jin So-ah performed acupuncture, they would miss the timing and people would die.

“Press the Juque and Qihai acupoints to a depth of half a chi? For one shijin?”

“Yes!”

“I can do it without needles.”

“What?”

Wei Yan-ho touched and released his fingers on the patient’s Qihai and Juque acupoints.

“Done.”

“What?”

“It’ll stay pressed for one shijin.”

“What are you talking about!”

Jin So-ah was about to get angry but closed his mouth. Come to think of it, Wei Yan-ho is a martial artist. There might be different methods from theirs. Just now, didn’t he make the patient spit up bloody phlegm with his hand?

“Come here and keep pressing this patient’s chest!”

“Fine, work me to death. Work me to death and just put me back where I belong.”

While Wei Yan-ho held the patient, Jin So-ah quickly ran to the patient Wei Yan-ho had treated and checked his pulse.

‘The acupoints are pressed even without needles!’

He couldn’t understand how it worked, but since he confirmed it was effective, he had to use it.

“Leave that patient alone and press the Jingmen, Tianzhu, and Weizhong acupoints of that patient over there to depths of one chi, half a chi, and one chi respectively!”

Irritation washed over Wei Yan-ho’s face.

“Again? I have to do it again? I’m tired and exhausted now.”

‘What did you do to be tired and exhausted!’

It was something he could never say aloud.

“Please! It’s to save the patient!”

Eing.”

Wei Yan-ho grumbled but followed Jin So-ah’s instructions to treat the patients.

After running around frantically for about half a shijin, the patients’ conditions gradually began to stabilize.

Jin So-ah wiped the sweat from his face and got up from the floor.

The patients who had finished treatment were moved to rooms by servants, so only he, Jin Ye-ran, and Wei Yan-ho remained in the courtyard.

Jin So-ah glanced at Wei Yan-ho.

Wei Yan-ho, with irritation and annoyance plastered all over his face, was lying on the ground with his eyes closed. He was showing the miraculous ability to convey through his face and body that ‘I’m very tired and exhausted right now, so I will never move no matter what task you give me.’

“Thank you for your hard work.”

Kaak! Ptuey! You work me to death and then say ‘thank you for your hard work’ and that’s it?”

Jin Ye-ran bowed her head to Wei Yan-ho.

“Thanks to Young Master Wei, we were able to save the patients’ lives. Thank you for your help.”

“……Kheuhm.”

Wei Yan-ho still had a face full of complaints, but unlike with Jin So-ah, he didn’t openly argue with Jin Ye-ran. Well, anyone who saw Jin Ye-ran’s current state wouldn’t be able to argue with her.

Jin Ye-ran’s face was covered with sweat and dirt, her white robes were dyed bright red with patients’ blood, and her hair was also in terrible condition with blood and dust.

No one could blame a girl who seemed barely past her coming of age, holding blood-soaked patients and inserting needles.

“I’ll have bath water prepared, so please go wash.”

“I’m fine…”

Wei Yan-ho looked down at his clothes and cut off his words. He couldn’t walk around wearing clothes covered in blood and pus. Even Wei Yan-ho could distinguish between his own sweat and others’ blood.

“I’ll wash. But you seem more urgent than me…”

Jin Ye-ran shook her head.

“I need to tend to the patients more.”

“If you see patients looking like that…”

“Changing clothes is simple enough. I don’t need Young Master Wei’s help anymore. I’m truly grateful for what you’ve done so far. Now please go wash and rest.”

“Yes.”

Jin Ye-ran nodded and turned around.

Seeing Jin Ye-ran’s slightly swaying figure, Wei Yan-ho unconsciously reached out his hand.

“Are you okay?”

“I’m fine. So-ah, get ready.”

“Yes, elder sister.”

Jin So-ah and Jin Ye-ran headed toward the medical hall where the patients were with quick steps.

Wei Yan-ho watched them blankly and sighed.

“It’s not easy.”

Every profession, every life has various aspects, and he found it ridiculous that he had thought physicians lived comfortable lives after seeing just a short time.

Wei Yan-ho stared intently at the backs of the two people heading to the room, then walked toward the bathroom.
