Ch. 131 Sword God From The Ruined World

Vaitel was in a good mood.

No, he couldn’t help but be happy.

“Currently in France, the entire city is paralyzed due to monster waves…”

“The city has been devastated to the point of resembling intense civil war, with casualties already exceeding hundreds according to government sources…”

“The economic damage from this incident is expected to be substantial, and more importantly, how much longer these events will repeat…”

“As you can see, simply defending against the monsters is overwhelming. All the nation’s Heroes have been mobilized but…”

“Humanity’s preserved heritage is being ruthlessly trampled and destroyed by monsters.”

Every TV channel and internet site was filled with news of the monster wave crisis, plunging the world into chaos and sorrow.

The simultaneous monster waves and absurdly insufficient number of Heroes.

Modern weapons were ineffective against most monsters.

Yet some nations still deployed military forces to bombard them, hoping to at least block their paths.

“Do they really think struggling like that will help?”

Vaitel smiled contentedly while watching monsters remain unharmed despite bombers and tank artillery fire.

“The large-scale monster waves suggest Rebley’s power is beginning to affect Earth through the rift zones.”

Rebley was on a completely different level from the foolish Avarr.

Though Vaitel had only met him once, he couldn’t help but feel tense around his power.

Barhaut’s most trusted lieutenant.

As the monster legion commander who contributed most to conquering dimensions, Rebley had never disappointed Barhaut.

Thus, Rebley was the ally Vaitel most desired, and as expected, his power was tremendously strong.

“Excellent.”

The flow was good.

As Rebley’s power began substantially affecting Earth, its pathetic Heroes would fall helplessly.

The more monsters active outside rift zones, the faster the synchronization rate rose.

And each time the synchronization reached certain thresholds, stronger servants of Barhaut could cross over to Earth.

Rebley influencing Earth was the best possible scenario.

“It would’ve been perfect if Avarr came after Rebley.”

But that ship had sailed.

Thinking of stupid Avarr who achieved nothing on this weak Earth made Vaitel wish he’d never existed.

Vaitel sipped wine while watching Earthlings suffer on TV.

Zzzzzzz—

When the ring on his finger vibrated, Vaitel frowned.

“What’s that insect Kang Young-pyo doing now?”

The ring was connected to the magic imprint placed on Kang Young-pyo’s heart, alerting him during emergencies.

Kang Young-pyo’s despicably selfish personality made him betray anyone.

An overly ambitious fool who didn’t know his place, but easy to manipulate by indulging his greed.

Since Kang Young-pyo felt no guilt causing chaos among humans, Vaitel had used him for various tasks.

Until now, Kang Young-pyo had performed reasonably well.

Including the Toam Gate explosion and other gate explosions worldwide.

He was also fairly strong among humans—with some magical assistance from Vaitel, he wouldn’t die easily.

Yet he was in mortal danger now?

“Was it Seo Do-jun?”

Vaitel quickly dismissed this.

TV repeatedly reported Seo Do-jun had entered a South Korean rift zone and not emerged.

“Hmm…”

Should he just leave Kang Young-pyo?

With Rebley’s power affecting Earth through rift zones, humans like Kang Young-pyo were now obsolete.

At best, they could only cause distractions in human society.

“Unless…?”

Kang Young-pyo was currently surveilling Seo Do-jun’s surroundings.

Perhaps he’d discovered who killed Avarr and the helper who enabled Seo Do-jun to tame Casserian.

“That must be it.”

Considering Kang Young-pyo’s abilities, few could endanger him.

But if it was Avarr’s killer, that changed everything.

“I should go.”

Vaitel stood up.

He couldn’t care less if Kang Young-pyo died, but needed to identify whoever could kill him.

After muttering a few words, Vaitel’s body vanished.

* * *

Italian Hero Association member Matteo couldn’t comprehend the scene before him.

Seo Do-jun, who’d suddenly jumped from the helicopter, was rapidly resolving the monster wave crisis the Association had given up on.

‘Is he…the god of war come to save us?’

Matteo genuinely believed in gods, and seeing Seo Do-jun appear before him felt like his long-held wish was granted.

With each sword swing, monsters of any rank were bisected.

He moved so fast it resembled teleportation—blinking in and out of existence across the battlefield.

The helicopter pilot couldn’t even track his movements properly.

He darted in every direction so unpredictably that if you blinked, you’d find him defeating monsters elsewhere.

After eliminating primarily the high-threat monsters, Seo Do-jun entered the rift zone.

“Ah! W-wait! It’s dangerous!”

Matteo’s belated attempt to stop him was futile.

While teams should cautiously enter rift zones together, Seo Do-jun went alone.

Deeming this an emergency, Matteo grabbed his phone.

Duty-bound, he urgently reported to the Association.

“…Yes! He unilaterally entered the rift zone without any chance to stop him! He killed most high-rank monsters that are difficult to handle! Yes! Even seeing it myself, I can hardly…urk!”

During his brief report, the rift zone closed.

And then.

“Let’s go elsewhere.”

Seo Do-jun boarded the helicopter and sat down.

Though breathing heavily, it would stabilize soon.

“…H-how…?”

Without a word, Seo Do-jun closed his eyes tiredly.

“Matteo! Matteo! What’s happening? Why did you stop talking?”

Hearing his name called through the phone, Matteo snapped back to reality.

“T-the rift zone closed.”

“What nonsense are you saying?!”

Matteo understood the yelling—he could barely believe what he’d witnessed himself, let alone someone only hearing about it.

“…We’re heading to Matera now.”

“Matera? Why suddenly go there?!”

Matteo patiently repeated himself until the other party understood.

Given the circumstances, he didn’t feel frustrated and calmly waited.

“So what’s he doing now?”

At this question, Matteo carefully glanced at Seo Do-jun.

With steady breathing, Seo Do-jun was…

“Asleep.”

He must’ve been so exhausted for him to doze off in the helicopter.

Perhaps sharing this sentiment, the person on the phone carefully advised not to wake him.

After hanging up, Matteo stayed silent and motionless.

When the helicopter reached Matera’s monster wave site, Seo Do-jun awoke on his own.

With monsters roaring everywhere, sleeping through that would’ve been stranger.

“South Korea couldn’t reach you directly, so they contacted our Association. Should I connect you?”

This reminded Seo Do-jun he’d left his phone in subspace when entering the Namwon rift zone.

‘Come to think of it, I couldn’t contact anyone.’

Dozens, maybe hundreds of messages and calls must be waiting.

Clearly, South Korea was worried and had many questions.

Should he contact them now?

KWA-BOOM!

While deliberating, a giant bluish lizard-like sub-boss monster—a Basilisk—smashed a five-story building with its tail.

Handling Italy’s crisis took priority over calling South Korea.

Moreover, hearing South Korea’s Casserian Guild was perfectly containing monster waves alleviated his concerns.

Deciding to contact them later, Seo Do-jun jumped from the helicopter again.

“…Left without a word again.”

Matteo was no longer surprised by Seo Do-jun casually jumping in and out of a flying helicopter.

Descending rapidly, Seo Do-jun plunged his sword into the Basilisk’s skull.

SKREEEEE!

Basilisks were notoriously tenacious.

Even without a head, they could rampage for hours unless their heart was directly attacked.

But destroying the heart alone wasn’t enough either—without brain damage, they’d still thrash about similarly.

In short, both brain and heart needed simultaneous lethal strikes.

Despite its brain being pierced, the Basilisk prepared its death throes.

Typically, after brain death, Basilisks move in set patterns:

First spinning violently to smash surroundings with their powerful tail, then flipping over to crush large areas by rolling.

Their incredibly durable bodies and scales made even Boss Monsters avoid their death throes.

Why risk injury when they’ll collapse dead within hours?

But such considerations only applied to monsters in rift zones or Gates.

A Basilisk rampaging through a city would cause catastrophic damage.

To finish it off before the thrashing began, Seo Do-jun slid down its back.

No matter how tough the Basilisk’s scales were—

SCHLICK!

Seo Do-jun’s sword pierced them effortlessly.

Though its heart-protecting bones were famously resilient—

CRACK!

They couldn’t stop Seo Do-jun’s blade from splitting its heart.

THUD!

The massive Basilisk’s corpse slumped to the ground.

Its four legs and tail twitched briefly before going limp.

Despite killing the Basilisk, countless monsters remained.

Holding a teleportation stone from subspace, Seo Do-jun vanished again in a flash.

Each time he reappeared, powerful monsters lost heads or were bisected.

“…If the god of war exists, he must look like that.”

Watching from above, Matteo murmured with eyes full of admiration.

For some reason, his heart raced whenever Seo Do-jun slew a monster.

He wanted to fight alongside such a man!

To hunt monsters for humanity at his side!

This was the moment Matteo—an Italian Hero Association member who’d lived without purpose—felt his heart burn passionately.

***

While Seo Do-jun rapidly handled Italy’s monster waves:

“Here we are.”

Vaitel appeared above Seo Do-jun’s home.

ROOOAR!

Sensing Vaitel’s overwhelming presence, Casserian emitted warning pheromones.

“Taming Casserian to use as guardians? Impressive.”

This was unthinkable without thoroughly understanding Casserian’s nature.

“Now I’m even more curious who you are.”

Dozens of black flame orbs formed around Vaitel before violently raining down on Seo Do-jun’s house.
