SFRW-Chapter 92
by SbmjamCh. 92 Sword God From The Ruined World
Shiver-shiver- tremble-tremble-!
Avarr’s entire body was shaking with unbearable humiliation.
He had been confident that with his undead legion, he could destroy any nation.
Yet the modern weapons of Earth – which he had never faced in the ruined world – proved overwhelmingly powerful. No, they had so thoroughly pulverized his so-called ‘undead legion’ into bone dust that the very term now felt shameful.
Has there ever been a more humiliating defeat?
This was the worst loss he’d suffered, worse than anything in the ruined world.
Not even the mages of the Magic Tower or the Imperial Knights had ever overwhelmed him like this.
“If only the Skeleton Fog had expanded further…”
The situation would have been completely different.
Avarr bitterly regretted not being able to fight within the Skeleton Fog that nullified all modern weapons.
Belatedly, the Skeleton Mages tried to turn the tide by attacking the massive metal war machines, but even that didn’t last long.
Total defeat.
A crushing loss so devastating he didn’t even want to think about it.
“Just you wait!”
Avarr decided to retreat and fight another day.
Using magic, he summoned a powerful whirlwind to gather the pulverized remains of his skeletons.
With so many skeletons completely annihilated without leaving even dust, his undead legion was drastically reduced in number.
Though regrettable, he wasn’t overly concerned.
The important thing was maintaining the Skeleton Fog.
“As long as the Skeleton Fog remains, I can recreate the undead legion anytime!”
The humans were surely growing arrogant now.
Having achieved such an easy victory against his undead legion, they might rush forward in a frenzy, competing to advance further.
Like moths to a flame, heedless of death!
“The counterattack begins then!”
Vengeance was more than Avarr’s purpose – it was his very existence.
He had lived his entire life sworn to revenge, and that resolve had nourished him, making him ever stronger.
This time would be no different.
Though defeated unexpectedly, he remained certain of his ultimate victory.
“Who goes there?!”
Avarr’s eyes flashed as a stranger entered his Skeleton Fog.
A young man with black hair and an impassive, cold expression – Seo Do-jun.
“Avarr?”
At Seo Do-jun’s question, Avarr’s skull tilted sideways with a clatter.
This unknown human was calling his name, though he had no memory of him.
“And who might you be?”
Seo Do-jun answered immediately:
“An acquaintance of Vaitel’s.”
“Vaitel? Hmm… Did he send you?”
At Vaitel’s name, Avarr responded without a second’s hesitation.
Assuming Vaitel was trying to help given his current predicament.
“You could say that.”
After all, he was here because of Vaitel.
Seo Do-jun felt his mind grow cold confirming the lich before him was indeed Avarr.
“Where is Vaitel? He knows my situation, yes? I may need his help. No, not that I strictly require it… but cooperation could accelerate synchronizing with this world’s resonance.”
Blah-blah-blah— Avarr kept rambling nonsense to himself.
‘Synchronization?’
Seo Do-jun had many questions, but rather than raising Avarr’s guard with direct queries, he chose to play along, gathering information through natural conversation.
“Vaitel is currently occupied with important matters elsewhere.”
“Hah! Important matters? What excuse is that from someone who crossed over first yet only achieved 30% synchronization?! Had I come first, this world would already be beneath my feet!”
Seeing Avarr’s delusional arrogance despite his humiliating defeat to modern weapons, Seo Do-jun thought him as much a daydreamer now as ever.
Still, within Avarr’s bluster, Seo Do-jun gleaned crucial intel:
Only Vaitel and Avarr had come to Earth so far.
“Who’s scheduled to come next?”
Avarr answered promptly:
“They’re still deciding the order. Probably Rebley or Kusak… Wait!”
Midway through his eager response, Avarr suddenly clamped his jaw shut and glared at Seo Do-jun.
“You said Vaitel sent you?”
The moment Seo Do-jun noticed the change in Avarr’s tone—
Something charged at him from behind at terrifying speed.
A Skeleton Knight.
Mounted on a bone steed, these knights – alongside Skeleton Mages – were among the most dangerous undead, swiftly traversing battlefields.
Clatter-clatter-clatter—
Before Seo Do-jun could react, the knight was upon him, swinging its greatsword down from horseback.
Crack!
Seo Do-jun casually sidestepped and decapitated the knight in one motion.
The headless skeleton collapsed uselessly, its ambush foiled.
But this was only the beginning.
From within the fog, bone arrows flew, while bone spears and axes targeted Seo Do-jun’s life.
Even the Skeleton Mages – who had destroyed Botswana’s tanks and Angola’s fighter jets – conjured black fireballs to attack him.
Most critically—
“Who the hell are you?!”
With a furious roar, Avarr shook the ground to destabilize Seo Do-jun while summoning black lightning.
“Tch.”
Regretting his hasty questioning, Seo Do-jun drew his sword from subspace.
This was no ordinary monster.
A black mage far more dangerous than any Boss Monster.
Vandeyan Family Swordmanship
Fourth Form: Cergel Selado Duhart!
-Sealing Power of the Unyielding Circle-
Sword energy erupted from Seo Do-jun’s blade, branching out to envelop him in a protective dome.
Like standing within a hemispherical fortress forged of sword aura.
This barrier deflected all incoming attacks.
Boom! Crash! Clang! Kaboom!
Avarr’s black lightning proved particularly potent.
‘Especially strong within the Skeleton Fog…’
The fog didn’t just empower Avarr’s ‘undead legion’ – it massively amplified his own magic while weakening opponents’ spells and sword energy.
Few could defeat Avarr within his domain.
However—
“B-blocked?!”
Avarr stared incredulously as Seo Do-jun withstood his assault.
Even Vaitel would have been overwhelmed.
Yet Seo Do-jun’s defense only deepened Avarr’s curiosity about his identity.
“Not just once or twice either.”
“Not just once or twice?”
Avarr’s hollow skull tilted again with a clatter.
In that instant, Seo Do-jun kicked off the ground toward Avarr.
‘Prolonging this fight favors him!’
Seo Do-jun hadn’t fully regained his past power as the Sword God.
Whereas Avarr, regardless of Earth’s magic density, could wield his full strength within the fog.
In this regard, Avarr was truly formidable.
Except—
‘The fool doesn’t know how to properly wield his power.’
Even now.
Had Seo Do-jun been in Avarr’s place, he’d have used the undead legion to pin himself down while hiding in the fog to await opportunities.
But not Avarr.
His fatal flaw was overconfidence.
Outside the fog, he was just another black mage.
Inside, he could rival the continent’s strongest.
This disparity fed his boastful nature.
Avarr’s inferiority complex from his wretched past made him crave validation.
“I’ll capture you alive and extract every memory to learn your identity!”
A vile spell favored by black mages, but Seo Do-jun just snorted and swung his sword.
No magic is useful if preemptively countered.
Crunch!
“GAAAH!”
Avarr’s black defensive barrier shattered effortlessly as Seo Do-jun’s strike smashed his shoulder bone.
Though incapable of pain, Avarr screamed as if agonized, scrambling backward.
Seo Do-jun gave no quarter.
He knew letting Avarr regain composure would make him harder to capture.
So he pressed the attack relentlessly.
Crack! Snap! Crunch!
With each sword stroke, Avarr’s bones fractured and scattered.
Attempts to defend or counter were thwarted as Seo Do-jun psychically disrupted his focus.
The ideal combat style for a knight against a mage.
No one in the ruined world understood this better than House Vandeyan.
So much so that people called the Vandeyan Marquisate ‘the natural enemy of mages’!
As the onslaught continued, a face suddenly surfaced in Avarr’s mind.
“I-impossible! H-how… K-Karserian, that damned—!”
The unforgettable human who had humiliated him before.
Karserian Le Vandeyan!
When Avarr first completed the Skeleton Fog and set out to conquer the continent after destroying the Kingdom of Yedel, among all the knights and mages who opposed him, none proved more threatening than Karserian.
The Vandeyan heir had overwhelmed him so completely that Avarr barely escaped with his life after suffering near-fatal wounds.
Even during the monster apocalypse, Avarr suffered crushing defeat.
Having become a Lich with greater power, he believed he could subjugate all humanity – only to be reduced to dust before Karserian’s sword once more.
And now!
Why?!
In this unfamiliar world!
Why must he suffer identical defeat to this stranger who resembled Karserian?!
Avarr could no longer withstand Seo Do-jun’s blade systematically dismantling him.
“Wh-who… are you? How…?”
“After all this, you still don’t remember?”
Seo Do-jun looked pityingly at Avarr’s remaining skull.
“N-no… It c-can’t be! Impossible…!”
“One question. Do you plan to kill all humans here, like in Leverka?”
At Seo Do-jun’s mention of the ruined continent Leverka, Avarr’s doubts vanished.
“So it really is Karserian…”
Past and present, every encounter ended the same – brutal, hopeless defeat.
Avarr felt neither anger nor vengeance now.
Perhaps he would never surpass this man.
With sudden acceptance, Avarr laughed.
“Kuhahaha! Karserian! You’re as wretched as I am!”
Rather than respond, Seo Do-jun lightly crushed Avarr’s skull underfoot.
The laughter only grew louder.
“Just like in Leverka, you’re fated to fail at saving this doomed world! Uahahaha!”
Creeeak—
As Seo Do-jun increased pressure, cracks spread across the skull.
Still Avarr laughed joyfully.
“Yes! Struggle! Flail! The more you resist, the greater your despair! Karserian! Tragic man burdened with the world’s destruction! You know better than anyone! My King is an omnipotent god beyond challenge! Khahaha! Uhehehe! Tremble in fear as my King leads you and this world to ruin—!”
CRUNCH!
Avarr’s skull shattered mid-sentence.
“Try if you can. It won’t be so easy this time.”
Seo Do-jun spoke resolutely and headed toward the dimensional rift.
As a Lich, destroying Avarr’s body wasn’t enough.
He needed to find and shatter Avarr’s Soul stone for true death.
As expected, Avarr had stationed Skeleton Knights and Mages to guard his soulstone near the rift.
Suspicious enough to make anyone doubt, Seo Do-jun thought.
After defeating all guardians, he obtained the Soul stone pulsing with gloomy magic.
Now to destroy it…
As Seo Do-jun tightened his grip, his eyes flashed strangely.
The magic within the Soul stone felt inexplicably… sweet.
